WTF is it with shopping on Easter eve?

I shop, it's what I do. I even have personal cards (business cards that have nothing to do with a job) that have my motto on them "I am, therefore I shop".

Well this morning when i went to the large shopping centre, which is only a block and half from where I live, I could not get my normal parking spot! I usually get the same spot every week (I call it the G spot) but it was already taken!

Now it's not like i was there at 10.00 in the morning, I can understand that once the stores are open it is get any park you can find, but since I was there at 8.15am I was a little bit surprised to find the car park half full already.

Before I went to get brekkie, i stopped in at Kmart to get some Easter eggs to share around at a friends place tonight and 'something' that I needed for my fathers birthday (father of G, you will have to wait till next week - I'm not telling).

Kmart was packed - wall to wall - half empty shelves - and five minute wait at every check out - shocked!!!

Did a bit of shopping, picked up a layby, ate pancakes, picked up a latte for M34tb4LL and was home by 10.00am.

After M34tb4LL injected the coffee straight into his vains we went back to the shopping centre (well, actually, a free standing store that is at the back od the shopping centre) to finalize the couch purchase that has been in the making for weeks, months now. Got to shopping centre and there were no parks anywhere near the furniture place, or a little further down, or a little further down again.

Finally got a park in the very back section that is usually only used by staff of the centre at Christmas time. Walked to furniture place (under threat of rain) and ordered one of those, with two of these and one of that - now have to wait 4 - 6 weeks (more on new furniture in another post)

Next stop was a couple of suburbs away to find 'ideal' coffee table. again, parking nightmares but done (we will buy it once the couches have been made up). Then to another shopping centre for a bit of window shopping and coffee refill.

Well... Never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever have we ever had any problems parking at this centre - it is a dirt mall, no-one ever goes there, half the shops don't bother opening on Sundays and the ones that do are closed by 2.00pm. Today is different story it seems, not a single park to be had! We had to stork people leaving the centre, follow them to there cars (must do a post on idea of reverse valet sometimes) and takes there spot.

So my theory is - shops not open on Good Friday, people suffer from massive withdrawals, have to shop on Easter eve, cars parks become parking hell, shops become sardine cans.

Just because the shops were not open yesterday does not mean that a person can not shop though - WELCOME TO THE INTERNET!!! Shop from the comfort of your own home and have things delivered to your door!!! In saying that however, I shop on the internet, but I still need to visit retail Mecca on very regular basis.

*shrug* what are you going to do?

haha 'G-Spot' luvvit!!
but yes, shopping mentality is something one can never fully understand methinks.
i tend do to all of my shopping in town, where i tram to, so i don't have the carparking issues (ever). and simply having the freedom of *no mall* makes the experience that much richer each time; there's nothing quite like getting out into daylight between each store (albeit the only daylight i ever see..)

but you're totally right. nobody necessarily *want* to shop on a particular day, but if they *cant*, then they'll feel hard done by and want to make up for it the next day.

well, that's me anyhow...
