I have tonsillitis - for the third time this year! Actually no, in January i had tonsillitis, August i had bronchitis, and this time the infection has started in my adenoids - so i guess i have adenoiditis.
The theory of having ones tonsils removed to stop such infections does not work in my books for the obvious reason. The doctor is calling it tonsillitis for want of a better word, but i have proven (scary but true) that if i did not have tonsils i am still very capable of getting an 'itis infection.
I called my usually doctor first thing on Friday as i was starting to feel the 'itis onset (and it's not like i don't have practice what it feels like!). My preferred doctor was all booked up and not wanting to wait till full blow 'itis before getting onto medication i agreed to see another doctor at the same practice - MISTAKE
First impression of the quack i went to see was that he did not even pop his head out the door and give one a thin smile as he invited one into his consulting room. No, the receptionist would get a phone call and have to direct one to room three to see the doctor. I should add at this point that my preferred practitioner did make the momentous journey of three meters to invite his patients to see him.
So i headed to room three - without an escort, and explained why i was there. He attempted to look at my throat ad after three goes and nearly chocking me with a giant paddle-pop stick he told me there was nothing wrong. I reiterated that the current discomfort i was feeling was coming from my adenoids not so much my throat to which he replied it probably an ulcer behind my nose, WTF??? and if i still felt off colour by Monday come back and see him - fat chance.
First thing i did when i got home was call the medical centre and secure an early morning appointment with my usual doctor, second opinion?
Next morning after personally inviting me into his consulting room, Dr. Nicer-than-other-dude said "didn't i see you here yesterday?" "yup, but couldn't get an appointment to see you so had to Dr. The-other" "ok, let me see what he put on your file, ulcer behind the nose? i would think that with your history it would be more likely to be an infection in your adenoids. Let me look at your throat!" This was achieved in one, non-gagging, go.
And his diagnosis? adenoiditis, "Lucky you did not wait till Monday, you would not be in a good way at all by then"
It is now Wednesday, and i have been taken medication religious. Have had a hell of last couple of day, but i am getting better. But if i had have waited till Monday before getting the treatment i needed? i'd be a right off!!! And i have to be well well well by Saturday - staff Christmas party!

These things first manifest in the pharynx ... which as any GP will tell you CANNOT BE SEEN (well I guess if they cut your head open they could).
With your family history girlfriend, any health in the upper respiratory tract is pure good fortune!
